Novice Frequent Tournament Q&A’s

If you have a specific question, ask the Tournament Managers first, then the captains, then the coaches

  1. How do I check my pairings?
    1. At the time when pairings are supposed to come out, open Tabroom!
    2. Click your email at the top right of the page and go to the section titled ‘Current’
    3. Tabroom should show you a table that tells you your room number, judge, opponent, and round start time for every round!
  2. How do I find my room/get around the building?
    1. If you see an available tournament manager, ask them!
    2. If you don’t see one, ask someone around who is wearing clothes from the school where the tournament is happening!
  3. What should I do if I don’t feel well in the middle of the tournament?
    1. If it happens during the round, tell the judge that you feel sick and ask to step out of the room for a short break (~5 mins)
      1. Come back and ask yourself: If you restart the round, will you throw up, pass out, etc, or will you be able to push through? Are you just scared of competing, or is there a real health issue being caused by something else?
        1. If you truly think that you’re about to pass out, throw up, etc, tell the judge that you need to concede the round and inform the coaches through Slack that you need to leave the tournament
          1. You will need to arrange your transportation
          2. Make sure to check it out!
        2. If you can push through, go for it!
        3. If you think you have debate anxiety, ask a tournament manageer for advice on managing it
  4. What should I do if I don’t have _____?
    1. Ask the Tournament Managers for the Tournament Box, which has a bunch of stuff for rounds, etc (pads, flow paper, binders, etc)
    2. If you need Tylenol, Tums, etc, ask the Tournament Manager if they have some
  5. Where should I go after my round?
    1. Go to our table in the cafeteria (home base)
