Volunteer Expectations

  1. Know your role. The tournament does not succeed without all of us doing the work to take care of guests, report issues before they derail tournament schedules, and keep the building clean and organized.
  2. Arrive on time and be there the whole time. Tournament hours are expected to be 2 pm-11 pm on Friday and 7 am-7:30 pm on Saturday.
    1. Times are subject to change depending on delays.
  3. Stay at your post. If you need to leave to go to the restroom or grab something to eat, please make sure to only do so during rounds when tr affic is naturally low.
  4. Represent the team well. The decisions your make reflect on our team, school, and community.

Team Responsibilities

  1. Provide way finding assistance to guests
  2. Report missing competitors/judges to your hall leader.
  3. Assist with resetting classrooms following the tournament.

Concessions Team

  1. Assist with unloading supplies from cars and organizing the concessions stock.
  2. Keep the concessions desk organized, clean, and stocked.
  3. Serve concessions food and drinks.
  4. Assist with the boba stand.

Do I need to check in or check out?

Yes! Volunteer check in is in the library. Make sure to check out at the same desk when you are being picked up. You will also get your volunteer badge.

Do I get volunteer hours for the Dulles Classic?

Yes, you will be rewarded 8 hours a day - the max possible - for Friday and Saturday. It is your responsibility to bring a volunteer hours form to the check out desk or Ms. Casasola’s classroom (B208) for signatures.

What should I wear?

You should be in school dress code and wear this year’s Dulles Speech and Debate shirt. If you don’t have this year’s shirt, you should wear


*Volunteers not following these expectations or can be denied volunteer hours, asked to leave the tournament, stripped of DSD member privileges with refund, or referred to campus administration for disciplinary action.
